What is designQ and How Does it Work?
One of the best things about building your own home is being able to pick and choose the finishes and features you want. That being said, it can be a lot to think about, especially if you don’t think you have the vision to create the home of your dreams. Fortunately, Sterling Homes makes this easy with the designQ design centre. It’s here you can fully explore all of your choices, and we believe this unique experience is one of the things that sets us apart from other builders.

DesignQ: Your All-in-One Design Centre
DesignQ is the name of Sterling’s expansive design centre. Throughout the 10,000 square foot showroom, you’ll find samples of all of the materials you can select for your new home – cabinets, flooring, countertops, sinks, wall colours, and everything else you can imagine.
Since it can be hard to get a sense of what materials look like from pictures alone, items are displayed so you can really see what they might look like in your home. For instance, toilets and sink styles are on display. Items like countertops have small display pieces hung on walls so you can see the variety of colours and patterns available.
Remember, many of these options are on display in Sterling’s show homes as well. If there’s something in particular you’d like to see on a larger scale, ask which show homes have these items and head out to those homes. Sometimes, seeing what a product really looks like inside a home can make or break your decision.
What You Get When You Choose Sterling Homes
Other builders might have you make your design selections with a sales representative, but at Sterling, we offer you a three-hour consultation with a certified interior designer. Backed by a wealth of knowledge and experience, you can feel confident you’re making the right selections for your family’s needs and sense of personal style. Feel free to use this time to ask questions about the benefits of different types of materials or to get some input on how to select a colour scheme that works for you.
Browsing on Your Own
DesignQ is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm, and on Thursdays from 10 am to 6 pm. There are also invitation-only hours from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursdays. Talk to your sales consultant if this is something you’re interested in.
As you walk through the centre, use the time to jot down some notes. Write down the names of some of your top choices, then do some online research once you get home. You should be able to see which things come standard with your home build and which things are upgrades. This helps you stick to your budget when you make your selections.
Making the Most of Your Consultation
Your free consultation is three hours long, and it’s helpful to come prepared. If you go to the consultation without having seen any of your options, you’ll probably spend more time making decisions. Instead, come to the open house hours as often as possible so you can go to your consultation with a strong sense of what you want for your home. This way, your interior designer is helping you fine-tune decisions rather than helping you make big choices.
It’s also helpful to develop a sense of personal style you can show the designer. Make some Pinterest boards or tear out pictures from magazines. Show your designer the styles you like, and he or she will be able to recreate those looks within the home you’re building. Don’t forget to make a list of questions as well!
What If It’s Not Enough?
Most of our customers find the consultation is more than enough time to make their selections, especially if they’ve taken the time to browse ahead of time. However, you can always talk to your designer about additional meetings to help you truly get the look you’ve been hoping for.
DesignQ offers those who build with Sterling Homes a chance to see all of their options in one place. You don’t have to waste time setting up separate appointments to make each selection. We understand your time is important, and creating this facility has made it easier than ever for people to create the homes of their dreams.
