8 DIY Decor Projects for Your Bathroom
Once you move into your new home, you want to have a bit of fun with the decorations. If you don’t have a lot of money leftover to spend on fancy new furnishings, DIY projects can offer you affordable solutions, especially when it comes to the bathroom. We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite projects including links to how you can make them yourself.
1. Side Vanity
Things like extra toilet paper and a brush for cleaning the toilet are a necessary part of any bathroom, but they’re also unsightly. Consider creating a side vanity for the toilet where you’ll be able to hide these items while keeping them handy whenever you need them. If you don’t have a saw at home, a store like Home Depot can cut the pieces for you.
2. Mason Jar Wall Sconce
For something that looks elegant but is easy to make, try these mason jar wall sconces. You simply need to stain or paint the background wood a colour you like, then attach mason jars to them. Fill those jars with fresh flowers for a nice touch, or consider something like candles. The version in the tutorial has just one mason jar on a small piece of wood, but you could also take a longer piece of wood and attach several jars along its length.
3. Mirror Messages
This idea for backwards bathroom messages is incredibly unique, and if you put them in the half-bathroom on the main floor, your guests will be surprised and delighted. The main idea is to think of a fun message, then write it backwards for the print. When you view it in the mirror as you’re washing your hands, the message shows up.
4. Mason Jar Organizer
Your bathroom needs some storage for the little things like cotton swabs and makeup brushes, and these mason jar organizers allow you to make organization look good. Hanging the jars on the wall helps you keep the space around the sink clear, but you can also decorate them and keep them on the counter if you have space.
5. Shell Wall Art
Many people choose a seaside theme for their bathroom décor, and this cute wall art idea allows you to create your own 3D seashell artwork. If you’re using shells that you actually picked up at the beach on vacation, be sure to wash them thoroughly to get rid of any lingering smells. Otherwise, purchase shells at a craft store. The idea is incredibly versatile because you can paint the background canvas any colour you want. You can also decide to use something other than shells to make the paintings.
6. Elegant Bath Tub
You don’t want to make any major renovations just after you’ve moved into your home, but this only looks like a major renovation. Airstone blocks look like natural stone, and they’re easy to install. Glue airstone blocks to your tub for a unique look!
7. Beautiful Bathroom Hooks
Your new bathroom will have some towel racks, but it might not be enough, especially in the kids’ bathroom. With an idea like these DIY bathroom hooks, you’re able to dramatically increase the number of towel hooks you have in the bathroom in a way that still looks neat and tidy. While the tutorial certainly has a rustic look, you can easily adapt the idea to suit other decorating styles. For instance, painting the background wood can add a bit of colour and match any design ideas you have.
8. Rustic Signs
Signs in the bathroom can be funny or thoughtful, but any message looks great when you make it look like a rustic sign. You can really save some money with this idea if you use leftover wood from another project. Don’t worry if your handwriting isn’t perfect. It might add to the charm of your message. Alternatively, you could use stencils to paint the words or a Cricut machine to cut vinyl lettering.
You want your bathrooms to be like an oasis, and the right bathroom décor can go a long way toward creating the feeling you want. By carefully selecting DIY projects that fit your needs, you’ll be able to create the look you like without spending a lot of money.
