As the summer starts to heat up here in Edmonton, it’s time to start thinking about which patios you’ll want to be hitting up this year. There are so many to choose from, all you need to do is decide what you’re in the mood for, grab a few friends, and go!

Here are a few of our favourites:

For the Beer: CRAFT Beer Market

Beer lovers rejoice: the list of beers is long at CRAFT Beer Market, so you’re likely to find new things to try. You might even find a new favourite. They also specialize in a wide range of foods, so you can grab a few appetizers to go with your beer, a light lunch, or a hearty dinner. Save some cash by going to Happy Hour. They offer times in the afternoons, nights, and weekends.

For the Mixed Drinks: Central Social Hall

If beer isn’t really your thing, head over to Central Social Hall for all the mixed drinks you could want. Fill up on salads and flatbread, or start with the handmade doughnuts they offer for dessert. This lovely restaurant offers many special deals throughout the week, including $2.75 specials for Happy Hour. Special kid-friendly hours mean you can take the whole family, too!

For the Coffee: Cafe Leva

You don’t have to like getting tipsy in order to enjoy some of Edmonton’s best patios. In fact, many people head to the patio at Cafe Leva specifically for their espresso. They also offer light fare, so it’s the perfect place to go for a lunchtime date with a friend or just to sit by yourself while you work on your novel.

For the French Cuisine: Cafe Bicyclette

While Leva might have an Italian feel, those who love French cuisine will want to add Cafe Bicyclette to their must-visit list. It’s an amazing bistro with mouth-watering foods, including vegetarian options. Check out the French wines and ask your waiter about the daily specials.

For the Pizza: Parlour

Parlour offers a pleasant patio and a variety of tasty treats, but you really should try their pizzas. Whether you’re feeling daring enough to try something unusual like their blueberry pizza or prefer to stick to the simple Margherita pizza, you’re sure to have a full belly at the end of your visit.

For the Burgers: The Next Act

Perhaps nothing says summer quite like sinking your teeth into a juicy burger and washing it down with a swig of your favourite beer. If that’s your scene, you’re going to want to spend some time at The Next Act. They have a nice selection of burgers, including the unusual PB&J version and a scrumptious vegetarian burger that even meat-eaters will enjoy. It’s one of the most popular destinations in Edmonton, so get there early.

For the Brunch: Little Brick

The perfect spot for a brunch, Little Brick cafe and general store is based out of a historic home, and it has a nice, homey patio out back. They offer a few favourite breakfast choices like French toast, bacon and eggs, and yogurt, along with pasta and sandwiches. You can have a beer or glass of wine with your meal, but you won’t look out of place with a simple coffee. Little Brick has a little something for everyone.

For the Tequila: El Cortez

If you like tequila, you have to make a stop at El Cortez, which has not one, not two, but three different patios. They have over 140 different brands of tequila, so you can try a different one each time you go. Pair your drink with some of their delectable Mexican treats. Keep in mind, El Cortez is only open evenings and nights, so you’ll have to plan accordingly.

For the People Watching: Julio’s Barrio

Part of the fun of eating on a patio is getting to watch all the people going by. With its streetside patio on Whyte Avenue, there’s no place better to do this than Julio’s Barrio. Try one their famous Bulldogs, and pair it with tacos, burritos, or any of your other favourite Mexican treats.

For the Backyard Feel: Urban Diner

If you’re looking for a place that feels like home, you’re going to love Urban Diner. In addition to a patio that feels like your backyard, they offer a nice selection of healthy foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Kid-friendly options include mac and cheese or PB&J with fries, so parents won’t have to worry about finding something for the little ones to eat.

For the Views: Riverside Bistro Courtyard by Marriott

You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the views of the river from the Riverside Bistro‘s outdoor patio. Many even argue that this is the best patio in all of Edmonton. Whether you’re stopping by for a dessert or a full meal, you’ll find the views are the biggest treat of all. Make reservations if you want to be sure to get a seat.

As you can see, there’s no lack of great patios for a relaxing summer meal in Edmonton. The hardest part is deciding which ones you want to visit.
