Make Sure You Love it

You want to create a balance between trusting your gut and picking a piece of artwork in haste resulting in you ending up with something you don’t really love. It’s best to be totally in love with the work you choose so that you know you’ll never get sick of it. Ask yourself, do I have a connection to this? Does it evoke an emotion? Do I want to see it every day? Also, don’t be influenced by others tastes. Art is subjective and it needs to be what you want to see.

Contrast Compliments

Just because your home has a modern look, doesn’t mean that you have to have modern art. You can create interest in the room by displaying art in the opposite style of your decor. Also, think about choosing items based on what you like about them and less about how they will “match” your decor. You will be pleasantly surprised by how well this works out for making a room appear more stylish.

Splurge on Framing

The right frame can enhance make the artwork you choose and make it stand out even more. You also don’t want to splurge on a wonderful piece of artwork only for it to get damaged. So having the right framing can protect the work and keep it looking great for a long time.

Mix Up the Quality

You don’t have to have the same art hanging in huge galleries unless you want to invest that much. Mix up the type of art you buy. You can hang street art, professional, and gallery quality art all in the same home. So don’t feel like you are limited to one artist or you have to buy the most expensive pieces. It’s all up to your taste of different artists and levels of work all combined together.

Keep An Open Mind

Just because you are only familiar with contemporary art doesn’t mean you won’t fall in love with a traditional sculpture or anything else. Keeping an open mind will help you choose something that inspires you and will make your home shine. Just because it isn’t your usual style. that’s not to say it won’t resonate with you and your home.

Mix Up The Sizes

You can do a wall of different art and create a collage or choose a large piece to be the focal point of the room. Mixing up the sizes gives some variation on the usually just one large painting and gives you more flexibility in the pieces you can choose.

Bold and Minimal

If you choose a really bold piece, it’s best to go with a really minimal neutral decor and vice versa. This way you don’t end up with a boring feeling or a piece of artwork that overwhelms the area. When picking art you want something that will either stand out or mellow out the space so definitely take into account the colour theme of your home.

Get Original Art

Nobody wants the same artwork we see in hotels and there’s a reason for that. It doesn’t evoke any emotion and typically makes you feel like it’s been reproduced a million times. Have fun choosing your art and find an artist you love. One of the best ways to find your favourite artists is by browsing through Instagram and Pinterest looking at different art.

When you keep the above tips in mind, it’s easy to pick artwork that you are happy to show off in your home. Remember though, it’s what you see every day that matters. Don’t be scared to make a decision because if you think it’s going to look awesome it probably will!
