Of course, before you choose a new Edmonton neighbourhood, you want to be confident there’s plenty to do nearby. Our list will show you many of the fun things that are close to this incredible community.

1. Explore the River Valley

This list just has to start with a mention of the trails along the river valley. The Uplands backs up against the ravines at Wedgewood Creek. If you act quickly, you may even be able to purchase a lot that directly connects to the ravine. Even if your backyard isn’t in the valley, you’re just a short walk away from this rich natural resource. You and your family will enjoy taking walks around here throughout the seasons. 

2. Ride Bikes Along the Tree-Lined Paths

You don’t even have to walk down to the trails by the river, though. You can walk or ride bikes along the many paths right in the neighbourhood. The Uplands has been expertly designed to appeal to today’s families. This includes having trails for exercise and playgrounds for the kids. When you participate in these activities around the neighbourhood, you have a good chance of making friends who live nearby.

3. Go to a Rec Centre for Fun and Fitness

Of course, when it’s cold, snowy, or rainy, you might not want to be outside no matter how great the view is. This doesn’t mean you have to be a couch potato all day. Instead, you can head to one of the local recreation centres. The Terwillegar Recreation Centre is a popular destination. They have salt water pools for exercise, along with some fun spray features in the leisure pool for the kids. The Jamie Platz YMCA is another fun place to go. They also have swimming, but perhaps the best feature is that their childminding services are free for members.

Both recreation centres also offer fitness machines, group classes, and even personal training. If you want to get fit, you’ll want to sign up for one of these places.

4. Get Your Shopping Done

Whether you want to shop for fun or because the pantry is bare, you won’t have to travel far if you live at the Uplands. Favourite stores like Save-On Foods and Shoppers Drug Mart are just a few minutes away, along with other necessities like banks and gas stations. If you need to do some more serious shopping, you’re close to all of the major shopping centres in the Southwest Edmonton area. This includes the Currents of Windermere, the Shops of Granville, and, of course, the West Edmonton Mall. Clearly, you won’t struggle to get anything you need.

5. Tee Off at the Golf Courses

Those who love golf are going to be happy to live in the Uplands. There are quite a few popular golf courses in the area. The Windermere Golf and Country Club is a private golf club that offers a spectacular course and a good chance to meet up with other serious golfers. A semi-private club, the River Ridge course is well-protected by trees, so you’ll feel like you’re golfing in the countryside even though you’re in the city. Set along the Whitemud Creek River, the Jagare Ridge Golf Course was designed to be a championship-level course, so it’s a good place to go if you want a bit more of a challenge.

6. Send the Kids to School

Anyone who has kids is naturally concerned about them getting the best education possible. Fortunately, you won’t have to worry about that if you live in the Uplands. There are a number of great schools nearby, including Centennial School, S. Bruce Smith School, and Jasper Place School. Those who prefer their children to receive an education steeped in the Catholic tradition also have choices for elementary, junior high school, and high school. At any of these schools, your children will grow socially and emotionally as well as academically.
