When you choose to make Southeast Edmonton your home, you certainly won’t be at a loss for things to do. You already know that the Anthony Henday makes it easy to take advantage of all the entertainment options throughout the city, but there are also a few choices right in this area. Let’s take a look at what Southeast Edmonton has to offer.

Watch the Races at Castrol Raceway

Car racing fans – or anyone with young children – may want to check out the schedule at the Castrol Raceway tracks. They frequently have races, including the popular Rocky Mountain Nationals. One of the best parts about the raceway is that when the cars aren’t racing, fans can go down to see the race track. During the intermission of certain races, the drivers will bring their cars out so that you can get autographs and pictures with the cars and drivers.

Learn Something New at the Children’s Educational Wildlife Museum

The Children’s Educational Wildlife Museum is not as well known as other types of museums, and it may require an appointment. Inside, though, kids can learn about Edmonton’s fur trading history. They’ll be able to see things like hunting tools from the past and a variety of stuffed animals.

Play or Watch Sports at Ivor Dent Sports Park

The Ivor Dent Sports Park was recently created, and it has several multi-use sports fields. Some of the options include soccer, rugby, kabaddi, and field hockey. There are plenty of kids’ sports programs that practice here. The park has been built using environmentally-friendly techniques, and it sometimes is the setting for festivals as well.

Have the Kids Burn Off Energy at Treehouse Indoor Playground

When it’s cold outside, you don’t always want to take the kids to play outside, but they still need to let off some steam. You can let them do this at the Treehouse Indoor Playground. It’s geared toward the younger crowd and includes things like climbing structures, riding toys, and a few video games. Due to the risk of allergies, you’re not allowed to bring your own food, but they do have a cafeteria where you can purchase some snacks or kid-friendly foods.

Spend the Day at Mill Woods Sport Park

Don’t let the name fool you. The Mill Woods Sport Park isn’t just about sports. It’s a great place to take the family when you’re feeling the need to get back in touch with nature. The beautiful park has a pond and trails for walking. There are also picnic tables and sports fields. In the summer, the water park is open so that kids can cool down. This park is right next to the recreation centre, so you can visit both in the same day.

Catch a Movie at the Cineplex Odeon South

At the Cineplex Odeon South, you can watch all of the latest blockbuster films, and they occasionally have other special events like showings of The Polar Express around Christmas time. You’ll enjoy all of the food options available here. They go way beyond the typical popcorn and candy, with hearty options like burgers and poutine. There’s also a yogurt cafe, a Starbucks, a pizza place, and gourmet popcorn available.

Update Your Home with a Trip to IKEA

Whether you just need a few essentials or you’ve just moved to Southeast Edmonton and want to completely redecorate your new home, you’ll find something you’re looking for at IKEA. You’ll probably even find several things that you didn’t know you were looking for! When you’re done shopping, you can grab a snack or a meal from the food area. It’s a great time for Swedish meatballs or a cinnamon bun. They even have some vegetarian options. Be sure to check their calendar for special events.
