Manning Village offers plenty of recreational opportunities right outside your door. While the kids will undoubtedly love playing in the big backyard, you can also take them to the playground to meet up with some friends. You can chat with other parents while they expend some energy running around.
There are stormwater ponds to provide a picturesque background for a family evening walk, and in the 10-acre park, there’s an off-leash area so your dog can really run. In winter, get the kids to bundle up and head over to the toboggan hill, where you can have hours of fun if you pack a Thermos of hot chocolate.
Walkable Shopping Centre
Want to save the environment? You can do your part by walking to the shopping centre instead of driving. Manning Town Centre is within walking distance, and it features some of your favourite shops, like the Dollar Tree, Lowes, and Marshalls. There’s also a 10-screen movie theatre. Plan to pick up a lot of items? Don’t worry about driving. The close distance means that you’re hardly using any gas at all.
No matter where you live, you want your children to get a great education. Around Manning Village, you’ll find a number of public and Catholic schools that may meet your family’s needs.
The Edmonton School District typically guarantees placement in the school closest to your neighbourhood, but you can sometimes petition for a place in another nearby school if they have an environment that you prefer. This is only allowed when there’s space in the schools, but since the northeast part of Edmonton is still growing, you’ll find that most schools in this area have space for more children.

Aside from Manning Town Centre, there are a number of popular amenities within a 15 minute drive. These include grocery stores, doctors offices and medical centres, banks, and gas stations. And whether you like fast food or upscale dining, you’re bound to find several of your favourite restaurants close by.

Since it’s well within the perimeter highway, you can drive downtown in under 20 minutes. Even better, the community is close to some public transportation hubs, allowing you to take public transit. The trip by LRT should take only a little longer than 30 minutes, and trains tend to come every 15 minutes, especially during rush hour, so you won’t have to worry about missing your train.

One of the best features of Manning Village is it’s within walking distance to the Manning Town Centre. This open-air shopping area includes many popular stores. You can pick up some things for your home at Lowes, a new dress at Marshalls, or other necessities at Canadian Tire. Once you’re ready for a break, you can grab a quick bite to eat at any of a variety of restaurants – Subway, Opa!, Edo Japan, or Boston Pizza. Though you can easily walk there, you might want to bring the car to carry your shopping bags home.
2. Catch the Latest Blockbusters
The Cineplex Cinema is also found in the Manning Town Centre area. They play current movies and occasionally have special events. What’s especially nice about this theatre is it tends to be less busy than the Cineplex at West Edmonton Mall. The lines aren’t as long and the theatres aren’t as crowded. It’s clean and the seats are comfy. If you’re ready to see the latest movies, this is the right theatre for you.
3. Make a Great Escape
Escape rooms are the latest trends in family entertainment, and there are a few located around Manning Village. The idea behind these places is you’re locked in a room with a few clues to help you get out. You then solve puzzles to find more clues – all while racing against a clock. Sometimes you’re only in the room with your own group, but sometimes you get matched up with others who want to play. Themed rooms make the experience more fun. Check out Time Escape Edmonton, GTFO Escape Entertainment, or Logic Lock. All of these are a short drive away.
4. Take a Hike
It’s always nice to get outside, and there are plenty of parks near Manning Village. Mill Creek Ravine Park is always a popular choice. There are lovely walking trails you can use any time of year. Many people enjoy bringing their dogs to frolic in the off-leash areas. Hermitage Park is also close. This is a great place for watching birds.
5. Go Green
If you have a green thumb, you’ll love living near Kuhlmann’s Greenhouse. This expansive gardening store features an indoor garden that can boost your mood when you have the winter doldrums. What’s more, Kuhlmann’s features a market and an array of different events throughout the year. They also sell almost anything you could possibly want for your garden.
6. See a Live Performance
Edmonton has plenty of venues for watching live events, and many of them are less than 15 minutes away. For example, the Northlands is known to host a variety of expos, festivals and events and Rexall remains one of Edmonton’s leading concert venues. There are also options for those who prefer a smaller performance. At Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club, you can have a few laughs will enjoying a night out with your friends.
