8 Things to Do Around Edmonton’s Orchards
Edmonton’s Orchards community has been perfectly designed for family life. If you choose to make this spot your home, you’ll find there are plenty of things you can do without even getting in your car. Of course, there are also many attractions a short drive away. Once you see all of the amenities you can have near Orchards, we think you’ll have found the perfect neighbourhood to call home.
1. Play in the Sun
Active families will find plenty to do in the Orchards community. In fact, many families specifically choose this neighbourhood because of the open green spaces and playgrounds they can walk to. There’s even a spray park to help the kids – and the grown-ups – cool off in the hot summer months. It was recently finished, so it’s sure to be a popular place to hang out this summer.
The fun doesn’t end when the snow starts to fall, though. There’s also an ice skating rink in the community, and hills perfect for tobogganing. As long as you bundle them up warmly, the kids will be happy to go outside.
2. Throw a Party
Anyone who has been dreaming of having a space big enough to invite friends and family over will be happy to know Sterling Homes offers the open-concept floor plans that make entertaining so easy. You’ll also have your own backyard if you want to throw a party. However, if you don’t want to spend time cleaning your home for guests, you can rent out the on-site clubhouse. This open space is also great for larger gatherings.
You don’t even have to plan your own events. The clubhouse is where the community comes together for special activities.
3. Learn and Grow
There’s nothing better than making the types of friends that will last a lifetime. Many of the families in Orchards have young children, and they’re excited to have their children grow up alongside their neighbours. Your kids can attend fine public and Catholic schools, and there’s even a popular Montessori school nearby. The same friends they see in their classrooms are the ones they’ll see on the playground on the weekends.
4. Join the Community
One of the nicest things about the Orchards community is there’s an active resident’s association. Joining is a great way to get to know your neighbours. You may even want to take on a more active leadership role. Since the community is still in the early stages, you have a good chance to shape it into the type of place you’ve always dreamed of living in.
5. Explore Nature
Being out in nature is good for the body and soul. Orchards includes tree-lined streets, a pond, and plenty of beautiful scenery. You can get your nature fix simply by taking a walk around the neighbourhood. If you want to go out a bit further, though, Blackburn Creek is a short drive away.
6. Pick Up the Essentials…and More
When you live in Orchards, you won’t have to drive far to get the things you need and want. Pick up some homegrown fruits, veggies, and other creative wares at the Orchards Farmer’s Market. You can also shop at the Save-On-Foods or the Shops at Summerside. At the All India Supermarket, you’ll find some specialty food items at great prices.
7. Go Out for a Bite to Eat
It’s always nice to take a break from the kitchen and enjoy the options around Orchards. While you can easily enjoy many of your fast-food and casual restaurant favourites, it’s also nice to go to nearby restaurants in South Edmonton Common or Ellerslie.
8. Get Out of Town
Life is great at Orchards, but if you feel like getting away from it all, or if you need to travel for work, it’s nice to know the airport is nearby. You can easily get to your flight on time – even if you’ve overslept – and it’s nice to have a short drive home at the end of a long flight.
If your family is still searching for the right place to call home, you need to give Orchards a closer look. Stop by to explore the community and tour our showhomes to get a better sense of what your new life can be like.
